Musculoskeletal Imaging

Musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging refers to the evaluation of joint, bone, muscle and connective tissue disease including sport-related injuries, arthritis, bone and joint infections, fractures and tumors. Imaging modalities frequently used in evaluating MSK problems include MRI, CT, XRAY and Nuclear Medicine.

At Rolling Oaks Radiology, we have four fellowship trained MSK radiologists, who have dedicated training in all aspects of MSK imaging. All MSK exams done at our facility are interpreted by radiologists experienced in the evaluation of MSK pathology and sports injuries. The radiologists at Rolling Oaks work closely with many of the orthopedic doctors in our area to provide expedited access to MR Imaging and rapid reporting of the MRI findings.

In addition, we have state of the art equipment, with both 3T and 1.5T MRI scanners as well as an “open” low-field magnet for patients with claustrophobia. Our 3T MRI scanner allows for exquisite detail for the evaluation of articular cartilage - critical in the management of arthritis. Our MRI scanners are also equipped with specialized video goggles which allow our patients to watch movies or listen to their own iPod while in the scanner. This has significantly improved patient comfort in the MRI scanner, and reduces the incidence of claustrophobia in our scanners!

We also have dedicated 64-slice CT scanners with state of the art 3D reconstruction software which allows for superior 3D visualization of fractures and the post-operative spine. We also provide all aspects of nuclear medicine imaging, including bone scans with SPECT, as well as PET imaging and Indium-WBC scans for the evaluation of infection or prosthetic hardware loosening. We also perform arthrograms and injections of steroids/pain medications if recommended by your orthopedic surgeon, podiatrist or chiropractor.
